It sounds like you might have a bad modem--you'll want to contact your service provider. But here's a few notes:

* I'm sure you've already confirmed this, but just in case...you should have a DSL filter on every phone jack that has a phone/answering machine connected to it.

* If you have many telephones (5 or more) connected to phone jacks throughout the house, your provider may tell you that that's too many, and suggest that you eliminate some. A better alternative is to ask that they install a "homerun splitter". I can't say exactly what it is, but it will boost the signal when there might be interference caused by too many connections.

* Best way to isolate the cause of the static to your DSL service (because they will most likely try to refer you to your phone service, saying it's in the telephone lines) is to listen on the phone, then turn off or unplug your DSL modem. If it is, in fact, a problem with your DSL service/modem, the line will go silent when the modem is turned off. Turn the modem back on, and the noise should return.

Call your provider and make sure they send out a replacement modem or send out a tech to troubleshoot.

Your broadband works on radio waves if you have a hub which allows remote access by wireless pcs. Simple answer is to move the phone away from the hub.
