I am a Senior in high school and I hope to go to UCB. I want to major in biology. I live 15 minutes from Berkeley. I went to an independent study school in a disadvantaged district ( I take my work home and work there) and take community college classes as well. My school didn't have AP classes till this year but I petitioned at my school and worked with my principal to get AP classes. I am now taking two AP's (a limited amount are offered). I have a 4.01 GPA but my semester GPA is a 4.44 since I now have AP classes. I have a 3.9 at the community college I take courses at. I got an 1840 on the SAT's (680 Eng, 530 Math, 630 Writing) and 650's on my Lit and Chem SAT II. I was an intern at a wildlife museum and I now work there as a supervisor to the teen volunteers and zoo keeper. I also interned at The Marine Science Institute where I helped collect fish data. I worked as a chemistry tutor. I've played select team soccer 10 yrs and danced for 6. I would really like your opinion/thoughts

IMPORTANT NOTE: I have already applied to UCB I am awaiting notification. I would just like to know what your opinions are to see weather this school is a viable option for me or should I just not get my hopes up.

Since you have already applied there is no point stressing over the application now; it is in the hands of the admission officers and there isn't much you can do. So relax, take a deep breath and calm down ... seriously, breathe!

There are plenty you can do AFTER you hear the colleges' decisions. You can laugh about how ridiculous it was for you to stress over this because you got accepted at all the schools you wanted to attend. But if you don't get into the schools you want you can: 1) appeal the decision; 2) take a gap year to do something worthwhile (that will enrich your application essay) and reapply next year; 3) attend a community college and apply in two years as a transfer; or 4) attend one of your backup schools.

Until then, keep breathing ... stress isn't going to do you any good now. You can contact me if you need help with the appeal process or gap year options.

Glad to hear you're interested in Cal. I'm Cal's biggest cheerleader here on Y!A.

I think you're a shoe-in for Cal. The only thing that might hold you back is that low SAT math score. But everything else looks great. Cal likes local folks. My roommate at Clark Kerr was from Skyline HS, and I know plenty of Bay Area natives who went to Cal. Cal also likes to take students who have a good sense of community service. The extracurriculars are good. I hope those community college classes will get you out of taking the bigger courses at Cal (my first class was Chem 1A, and it had 600+ people)

I hope you're applying for scholarships. I'm going to be reviewing Alumni scholarship applications.

Good luck, hope to have you as a future alumna!

I would definitely say that you have a really good chance at getting accepted. You sound like a very intelligent girl, and I wouldn't doubt myself if I were you. But if you don't get accepted, just realize that there are a lot of really great schools out there!

I too will be keeping my fingers crossed for you! Good luck!

It sounds like you have a very good chance. Your scores on tests are good and your GPA is high. AP classes are good, also. Your extraciricular activities are amazing. So I would say you have a pretty darn good chance. Lol.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you! [Although it sounds like you dont need it. Lol.]

I am applying to UC Davis next year for their Vet school.
