obviously to accept this question as valid you have to assume the nation is off track.. so if you do not agree with that then there is no need to answer. now, moving on.. Bush may have some moderate stances.. but for the most part he has appealed to the religious right... in the next election, what do you think would be the best vote to get the nation running well again.. a moderate or a far left to balance out the last 8 years? I'd say a moderate would work best.. how about you?

I agree with you. We need a moderate. I'm right now leaning to a conservative moderate just because I don't see any good liberal moderates. I would prefer a liberal moderate, however.

Bush's supporters will, of course, disagree and yell names but whatever. We'll just see how the voting goes. We definitely need to have someone get this nation back on track. Bush pushed us soooo far away from any trail to any success that even his lackies are having a harder time with supporting him with conscious thought.

We need someone to start treating us like adults. Then we need to behave like adults. Wars cost money and lives and our bill is due. We can pay it in taxes on the rich or taxes on the rest, in gratitude to the country I suggest we raise taxes on the super rich, over 5million ought to keep out the merely rich, raise it back up to the rate it was under Clinton, 38%. No one will suffer, they sure didn't suffer then.
We need unified medical care for all citizens, other countries do it and they don't fail their people. Lets seriously study their systems without the hysteria of socialism, we are 17th in child mortality, lets get hysterical about that.
You can't balance out the last 8 years by putting a liberal in, the country would have to understand what a liberal even is since the right made it a dirty slur.
Moderates always work best, but a grown-up person, not just a pretty one, and a hard worker, not just a frat boy, that's what is necessary to get us back to being the best in the world.
And I don't care much which party brings that person in, I'll vote for it.

I'd say one that acts like a grown up and a leader for a change. We've had enough man-childs in office. We need to get religion out of government and to keep it secular. And, we need someone who isn't corporate corrupted. We need to get the term 'moderate' back where it belongs, in the center. Right now as it stands, it's definition has been co-opted by the right wing. We need someone sensible, like Gerald Ford. But who will actually give a damn about the American people, our education, our quality of life for all, and the quality of the air we breathe and the water we drink. We need someone who will provide another way other than the overly masculine/patriarchial way we've had in the last 6 years. In other words, we need a level head and we need to get the sociopaths out of office. We also need to get big corporate money out of office as well, if we ever plan on having a democracy back. The closest thing we have as far as candidates go is Dennis Kucinich or possibly John Edwards.

I don't think we're really off track except for our foreign policy, the wars and dealing with extreme wackos.

We'll need a moderate in the white house the next time around-- one who is pro-business/economy (more conservative but balanced). We need somebody who is not going to cater to extreme elements in our own country (e.g. evangelicals or tree-hugger left wingers). We need somebody who will focus on the 80% or more rather than issue which affect 5% of the population but inflame the other 90%.

One who will SAY WHAT THEY MEAN AND MEAN WHAT THEY SAY!!! Not going to take any bs from anyone and stand up for the country and the people they believe in. Someone who is going to consider the AMERICAN people first and foremost and take what we have to say into consideration. Someone who has the kuhoonies to stand up for what this country was founded on. To make laws, follow laws and for crying out loud stick to the laws of this country. Stop changing the traditions we have all grown accustomed to for generations and generations and tell the people that don't like the way we live here in America, based on Christian faith, believing in the good faith of God and countrymen to get OUT and bring their crap someplace else!! You weren't invited here you chose to come here so you should live by our laws, our traditions and don't let the door hit you on the way out!! O n learn how to speak English our fathers and their fathers fathers did Y CAN'T U!!

We need someone who thinks about the effects his actions will have on the people of america rather than the business interests of america. We need someone who remembers the values that made this country great: freedom and opportunity, among other things.

I'd like to see someone who isn't afraid to cross party lines. Even though I side with the democrats on most issues, they always seem to allow their best ideas to be gutted and rendered ineffective during the political process. When you look back at what Clinton accomplished, very little of it was liberal. Even when he had Ms. Clinton look at health care, her answer was pretty conservative.

I guess I want someone who thinks about the interests of the American people more than they think about their popularity or special interests.

Someone who puts the needs of the people ahead of greed and power. Someone who understands that the government is to serve the people, and not the other way around. Someone who cannot be corrupted. Someone who is a public servant, instead of a politician. Someone who listens to the people, and cares about those who are not the elite.!!!!

Back on track? We are. Seems to me that off track is in a 2nd or 3rd world country. We enjoy the greatest prosperity of any nation in the world. President Bush is doing the unpopular thing by protecting our nation from Radical Islam. Lets face it, by enjoying such prosperity, we have become lazy, selfish and stupid where it comes to world affairs. We need to open our eyes and see the world for what it is - against us. The type of president we need is one who has a backbone and doesn't pander for votes. Yes, I value morals and values but we pay his salary for his strength, wisdom and ability to get things done, not his ability to make friends.

depends on what track you want the nation to be on. ideally, we need to get middle class independents into the white house and congress rather than elitists. but i wonder if someone not from the upper class would be more susceptible to power and money because they haven't had to deal with it before. if that's the case, give me a successful entrepreneur, someone with ideas, networking and communication skills, and decision making capacity.
