My first day was uneventful except, I think, for the way homeroom warped my carefully planned schedule.
My first year was hard emotionally and mentally. I did a lot of "reinventing the wheel" and a lot of stressing over things I could not control and stressing more of things I did not yet know HOW to control. I thought if I was just prepared enough I could skip that stage: no such luck. I think the sucky first year is inevitable.
This is my 4th year teaching English, 2nd teaching Spanish at the high school level, and it's getting easier all the time, or at least when I have smaller classe. Over 25 in each class still tax my nerves (but I was blessed by the Schedule Fairy this semester).
The best grade for you really depends on your disposition. I like the high school kids because I can joke with them and they're starting to calm down after pre-pubescence. Others do well with the mini-students. It has to do with your personality.

My first day wasn't too bad. I had taken a lot of time to prepare and I'm slightly OCD and a perfectionist, so I was probably overprepared, but that's perfect for teaching. I just went over rules and procedures the entire day with all my classes. I went over rules and procedures the entire week actually. And on that first Friday, I gave a test on rules and procedures. That has really made a difference in my classroom. I even did a review day on rules and procedures after Christmas break to make sure the students remembered what was important in class.
It's still my first year teaching, so I'm definitely no expert, but organization has made my life much easier than some of my friends who are also first year teachers right now. I teach high school Algebra I and geometry. I have everyone from freshmen to seniors.
The first year has been extremely stressful and busy, but also very rewarding. I'm looking forward to next year when I'll be an even better teacher and even more prepared!

I was really nervous on my first day. It was only a 2 hour day so it wasn't too bad. The kids are just as nervous or anxious as you are on the first day. I've been teaching 1st grade for 8 years ( I teach all core subjects). I personally love working with the primary grades simply because they are so impressionable, loving, and they all still have the love of learning! You can instill a lot of them in this level.

My very first day of teaching....I remember I was very nervous. I couldn't sleep the night before and I over prepared. My first year was a challenge. I had a difficult group of students and they challenged me daily! I learned so much that first year! At that time I was teaching 3rd/4th grade, I am currently teaching 4th/5th grade. I can't say what grade is the best to teach, it is personal preference.
Just remember that every day is a learning experience, for you and the students. Enjoy it!

My first day as a teacher was in a junior high school as Mathematics teacher for grades 11/12. In my country, 10th and 12th exams are conducted by State boards. Students experience first public exam in 10th and then in 12th. These exams are instrumental in shaping the student's future career options. And hence students take these years very seriously(not that the other standards dont hold any importance for them, but these years play a major role in deciding their career options.)
Teachers usually have 1/5ths of the curriculum covered during 9th/11th summer vacations so they can allot lot of time later for student doubts, practice tests etc.
I wasn't sure of how much of curriculum was already covered as I had joined the very day when school reopened. I was informed by my senoir colleagues that its okay if I spend that day as 'introduction day' as it was first day for me and students as well. But I had prepared for the topic 'logic'. Logic is easiest of all topics hence I chose to start my first day with that.
After an introduction, I started asking them few questions to judge how much of logic they already know. Students were well prepared and answered to all my questions correctly. They were asking to me continue with 'conics' as they found it very confusing and difficult to grasp. I began teaching 'circles' which was most easiest of all conics. They interrupted me saying they know all about circles. They wanted to know more about parabola. That was the only day when instead of students, I wished that bell could go early! I somehow managed to derive the equation of parabola from memory. Students enjoyed the whole experience. Students enjoyed the fact that their teacher could also forget things, make silly mistakes here and there. They told me that precisely this is what happens to them too! I had wonderful year ahead. Learning like them, learning with them is real fun!

I'm not a teacher, I just finished high school, but I do know that I've never seen a new teacher stay with their fist job for more than a year or 2. (in all levels of school)
