If you liked Harry Potter I'm betting you'll love the Belgariad Series by David Eddings. It is a story about a teenager who suddenly learns that he is a sorcerer and his destiny is to save the world. He is helped on his quest by his Aunt Polgara a powerful sorceress and an Old Man named Belgarath.
The first is the Pawn of Prophesy.
The same characters and world are used in the Malorian Series which takes place after the time of the Belgariad.

Well, if you like Harry Potter, I would also recommend the Lord of the Rings series... *shrug* and for sci-fi, I just finished Orson Scott Card, Ender's Game. it's a series worth checking out. *and I'm not the big sci-fi fan either*

Traci Harding wrote the Ancient Future Trilogy and The Celestial Triad, they are all part if the same series, and they're a fantastic read. It starts off with the main character going back in time to ancient Wales.

I liked the Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks. Anything by TB is good but the original was the best. Also the Redwall series by Brian Jacques. They are kids books, buy I still love them

The Lord of the Rings or Stephen King's Dark Tower series - both are wonderful, other-wordly epics.
