If you are the bride, then you want to make your wedding week as stress free as possible. If this is to show appreciation for those in the bridal party, then a rehearsal luncheon will suffice. You can have this catered by a local restaurant and have in your home or your parent's home. Choose a light menu with pasta, salad, bread, wine and dessert.

If this is a bridal shower, then someone else, other than the bride should be respondsible for doing this. The mother of the bride and all the bride's maids can plan it together.

A bridal luncheon is a great tradition that allows the bride to express her appreciation to her attendants. This is a time to have everyone together, introduce people who might not know eachother, and generally have a great time. These parties can be held at any time of the day or night, and as formal or informal as you desire. The bridal luncheon is traditionally thrown 1-2 weeks prior to the wedding. However, it can be scheduled right before the wedding if any of the attendants are from out of town.

Here are some suggestions for what a bridal luncheon might include:
-Formal invitations
-Lunch/Dinner
-Thank You Toast
-Give out gifts to attendants (a small piece of jewelry, silver frame, etc)
- Serve a pink cake for desert with a ring, coin or thimble inside. Legend has it that the lady whose piece contains the trinket will be the next to be married.
-No Boys!

Need some party ideas?
An afternoon of manicures and pedicures at the local spa.
A picnic in the park.
A tasting menu at your favorite restaurant -- 10 to 12 courses with just a bite or two per course.
Movie night -- two or three favorite videos and an assortment of yummy snacks.
A group outing to a great new art exhibit.
A co-ed attendants' event with your fiancé and his groomsmen.

Good luck and congratualtions on your upcoming wedding!

When I got married my in-laws threw one for me the day before the wedding and it was a little too much. I had another one about 2 weeks before the wedding at a cute little cafe and gave my bridesmaids their gifts. That one was much less stressful and I just got to enjoy hanging out.
