Yes, this is possile.

When labour starts and the cervix begins to thin and dialate, sometimes the amniotic sac ruputers ("water broke"). If the amniotic sac ruptures, the doctors must deliver the baby and the placenta.

If you were pregnant with fraternal twins (they did not come from the same egg), then there are two babies, two amniotic sacs and two placentas.

If your cervix began to dialte, one sac was ruptured and one baby was delivered, it is possible for the doctors to give you medication to stop labour and try to help you carry the second baby longer. You will likely be put on bed rest and have them keeping a very close watch over you.

No. Once the "door " has been open, the trauma to the other baby inside increases. Even if he is in his own sack, there are so many things that your body goes through after birth that it is very important to get that other baby out. I actually saw a program on Discovery Health (by coicidence) last week where a woman delivered her first child after her water broke (on the toilet of all places) and then delivered the 2nd child 3 hours later. They were very worried because the 2nd child was not coming. She had stopped laboring and contracting completely. So they had to induce her. Maybe they have the program guide online where you can see it.

I have seen a twin pass way in utero and the second twin be delivered at a later time. But I know that they have to go to extrodinary measures to save the second baby.

If they were fraternal twins(seperate placentas and sacs) then yes, theoretically it would be possible although highly unlikely
