.There are thousands upon thousands of British who have bought homes in Spain. Some have been very very unfortunate due to the land grab laws, but the majority who have done their homework with the help of a competent solicitor are very happy in their choice and love the Spanish lifestyle and climate.
If you are thinking of buying one go for it

Before moving there, learn Spanish. Don't buy a property in the area where the Brits live, they'll look to rip you off. Don't be a typical Brit and live on the Costa del Tacky......live in a proper part of Spain, there you'll get to know the real people and believe me, you won't regret it. I don't, having live in the North (the Basque Country) for over 5 years now. I speak the language, have married a woman from here and have some great Basque friends, and couldn't even dream of living near my fellow countrymen. Why eat fish & chips and drink Carling Black Label, when you can eat Chipirones, Gulas, Anchoas, and drink Vino Tinto, or Cafe con Hielo in the summer? Don't be Brit, be adventurous.

I know, it's disgusting. They come over, hundreds of thousands of them, drinking Spanish peoples' Sangria, bringing their filthy food which they eat with their hands (fish and chips), and driving the locals out of the property market. I mean, if God had meant them to live in a Mediterranean climate he wouldn't have made them pink!

ufo has it right; you can't trust a lawyer to prove the title on your land; even when fully registered with the authorities it may still not "exist" and you may not even own all the land you think you own; a gamble not worth taking

buyer beware, you do all the work and some bugger from history claims its family land and was not told of the sale , and wants half the value or the whole lot back , and you don't have a leg to stand on if he is a local , no win situation
