You should try to see if Joel Zumaya of the Tigers or Jonathan Broxton of the Dodgers are available. They are the future closers for their teams and the future might be this year because Todd Jones is getting old and Takashi Saito might be a one year wonder. Also try to see if guys like Salomon Torres of the Pirates, Taylor Tankersley of the Marlins, and Octavio Dotel of the Royals are available on the waiver wire as they are most likely the closers for their teams. Good luck this season!

Don't trade yet. Only about 7 or 8 closers finish as closer, they pop up all year. You took Gozalez and finished last year with 24 but didn't start the year as closer. Look at volitile closer positions and start watching where that next closer will be. Todd Jones is one of the leaders for losing his job to Zumaya. Wickman will be gone in Atlanta, but most likely to Soriano and not Gonzalez. Although Mike has the closing experience Atlanta picked him becasue they needed a situational lefty in the bullpen and making him the closer would defeat that purpose but he stll may get a couple of he comes in to face 1 or 2 LH hitters in the 9th.
Kerry Wood might take over for Dumpster in Chi if he drains his hot tub for the rest of the season. Boston is still up for grabs. Saito in LA had good year but he is not a dominate pitcher and if he slips he could lose that one to Broxton. Gagne looked good for one game last year and then missed the rest of the year so that job could still go back to Otsuka.

I wouldn't make a trade for a closer too early in spring training or you could lose a good player and still end up looking for another closer a month into the season. Also look for Bud black in San Diego to start leaning on some younger arms. Buddy likes to build for the future and Hoffman is far from a rookie. he did the same with Troy Percival in K-Rod's second year.

Just sit on your hands and don't try to be overactive this early with volitile positions.

you have several options as I look at it. If you are willing to trade someone, I would trade for a 3B. Figgins is not as great as some believe, I had him on my team last year and let me just say hes only good for SB's, plus with Gary Matthews in town now he likely wont be leading off. Anyway, back to closers that can be found. It is possible that zumaya is available. If you get him, then you have both the guys that will be closing ballgames for detroit. I have a hunch that zumaya will become the main guy before long. Another guy you might find available is Joe Borowski. Keith Foulke just anounced retirement so Borowski is the man. For more information on closers that can be found click the follwing link. http://sports.espn.go.com/fantasy/baseball/flb/story?page=talentedmrroto1.

Just remember, saves can always be found, and if you have a stud like street you shouldnt trade away hitting studs to get another one. Especially, because do to the limited number of closers who definately have the job, they always are traded above their value. Look through the waiver wire and you will get saves while not damaging your team.

u should most definately trade Troy Glaus.
I'm not saying that he isn't an unbeleivable player but you have 3 eligible shortstops on your team, and you are really waisting the UTIL spot on Felipe Lopez.

You are better off trying to trade Troy Glaus for a decent mid-level hitter like Alex Rios and a good closer like Rivera.

I would just keep your eyes pealed over the spring training and the first couple weeks, cause there is always closer issues and a player who wasnt a closer popping up and making big numbers. I am still evaluating myself but I would be patient and see what is out there and read up on the set up pitchers that are out there and how strong that closer is in front of him. Might find a couple diamonds in the rough....this works for me alot.

You made the main elementary beginner mistake...preserving too many offensive adult males on the bench. They hardly get used, and are in truth a waste, till you need to use them for commerce bait...or, are first rate sufficient which you would be satisfied to start them so which you would be able to commerce your starter for a good pitcher. Regardless, you may desire to wittle your offense right down to, ideally, one bench guy and use those participant slots for pitching particularly. The greater starts off you get out of your pitching paintings tension, the greater probably you're to rack up W's and ok's. that's achievable that your era and WHIP can go through in case you do no longer p.c.. up the acceptable suited starters, notwithstanding, you may offset this basically somewhat via getting a stellar center reliever like a Linebrink or Duscherer who're owned in very few leagues till the leagues count quantity holds, which maximum do no longer.

Todd Jones is a good closer, he won't get you alot of strikeouts, but not many do. He will get you alot of saves, and his era isnt too high, which is the main thing you want from your closer. Pick up Zumaya if available though, he'll get you strikeouts, and if Jones gets hurt, he'd take his place as closer for the Tigers.

I don't think there is a hurry to make a trade. I would get Zumaya though if you can to fill in once Jones goes down. Closers are a tricky position. Zumaya will be good for years to come though.

No need to trade anyoen pick up Armando Benitez, expect a big year from him, he'll have more save opportunities with the newly aquired Barry Zito. I expect the Giants to be a contender this year.
