I was having a discussion, some may call it an argument, about how the economy is doing. I think it's not doing well. This other guy was saying how unemployment is virtually non-existent and NASDAQ is higher than ever, so the economy is doing really well. Is this true? Or is the economy not doing well? Please give me some details as to why the economy is doing good or bad. Thanks so much for you help!

Bad for the majority! Never better for the wealthy few! Poverty in USA is at levels equal to the Great Depression Era. Personnel savings almost non-existent! Red ink Debt Home loans "mortgages", auto loans, credit cards, student loans, medical bills, business loans & the list goes on with a sea of Red ink debt ignored by the same group who denies poverty & the homeless in USA! Unemployment statistics are fudged drawmatically like most government or media reports! They only report who qualifies to receive benifits NOT who is out of work & needs employment! OVER 90% of Americans could NOT pay off what Red ink debt they owe right now! Thus living on credit! or a superficial lifestyle! Many like who answer here can't bear the reality of it!

Yeah...the economy is doing well and with NASDAQ up as much as it has been, then yes.

Unemployment is fluctuating, but for the most part those who are seeking work are finding work. Well, I wouldn't say unemployment is virtually NON existent. I'm proof of that, but it is at a record low right now. The Federal deficit is 1/4 paid back already and will be fully paid back by 2012. So even with it being in the trillions, that's a plus. The Federal money was NOT just spent on the War...there were also states with Natural Disasters who have been collecting into the Billions to help...so I don't understand why people keep saying it's all because of Iraq that we're in debt. That's hogwash.

The problem is that this question will now break down to a political one. To be honest, when looking at an economy there are so many ways to show it as being either good or bad. Then the person with a political agenda will use specific points to show, look its great! OR look its horrible! I think the answer is somewhere in the middle. Its not great and its not bad. Unemployment is low, that is certainly a great thing. Inflation is low that is certainly a great thing. The NASDAQ and dow jones are at the highest levels ever, but that also doesn't really mean anything. They should be at their highest levels ever, they are always supposed to be increasing over time. The national Debt is certainly another thing to look at. The national debt has grown by an enormous amount. People living under the poverty line has also gone up significantly.

Neither myself or a single individual i understand lost their job, yet that does no longer mean that we at the instant are not tender to those that've. In any adventure, all human beings have been frugal interior the solid instances, and saved up as much as shall we for a "wet day". None human beings bought residences shall we slightly discover the money for, so if we do loose our jobs we are able to maintain a roof over our heads. via fact that we are all working, have modest decrease fee expenses and maximum human beings carry no debt, the economic equipment has no longer affected us for my area all that lots. The paying for means of the greenback is on our minds, yet with credit being so less expensive, and housing as properly, a minimum of one human beings is making an furnish on a house with a cost and words that have been non -existent some years in the past. I definitely have concerns approximately how long i could have the means to maintain my job, the place my project moved to a various city in January, and now 3 states away final week. there have been income cuts as properly. I evaluate myself fairly fortunate on one hand, on the different I made advantageous that i got here upon as "recession evidence" employment as available, get an education and am a solid worker. i think of the latter 2 have had performed some place in my persisted employment. instances like those is the place the corporate trims out the deadwood first.

You sound like a typical Democrat or at least not knowing of your surroundings...Watch the national news. Unemployment is at the lowest level ever, the stock market is higher than it has ever, ever been...If that sounds like a bad economy, youo need to take a trip to South Africa and get a job there and live for a year. When you get back, become a Republican, or at least pay more attention.

Unemployment is low, around 4.5% though not as low as the 3.8% in the late nineties. And the Nasdaq is high. But neither of those stats address the fact that the middle and lower economic classes, i.e., the great majority of Americans, are suffering from stagnant wages and rapidly increasing health care and energy costs. The question is for whom is it doing really well FOR? Certainly not the majority of Americans.
