My best friend just had a baby in November and named her Kyra (pronounced KEER-ah) Lynn and I wasn't crazy about it at first, but now I really like it. I told her that she must have been a Pink Floyd fan because Kyra Lynn reminded me of the song from The Wall with Vera Lynn. She didn't consciously realize the connection, but she is definitely a Floyd fan. :)

I think Kyra is a pretty name for a girl. My son has a friend by that name.

Kyra? You pronounced the same was as "tyra" as in Tyra Banks or Kyra, as in Kyra from the TV show Reba?

Not a fan of Kyra, basically because it reminds me of Tyra Banks and I don't like her at all.

And I agree with what someone else said (either way you pronounce it) that the name sounds too "gimicky", like it's trying too hard to be different or something.

I love it in fact if I had a girl i may pinch it :P although if we do have a girl I don't think we could have it as we already have one sone witht the name Kiedis and one is Kaden and we got moaned at to name our 3rd without a K as people were getting confused :P so he is Ethan but Kyra is really pretty.

Yes, I really like Kyra - Kier - ra or Ky - ra, both pronouncations are good. I would go with Ky-ra, just because my sister is Myra - My - ra, and then they rhyme since they are spelt almost the same. I also like Lyra, a great herione from Phillip Pullmans FABULOUS chilrens triology , His Dark Materials, which starts with The Golden Compas. (If you haven't read it, you should, good read for adults too).

Kyra is a cute name...I know a baby named Kira (pronounced Keer-ah) which is beautiful, however my dog's name is Kirra (pronounced Keer-ah too)...I tend to give my dogs human names...so I myself could never consider that name (too weird) but I think it's a beautiful name.
