I am going to be getting a leopard gecko, and have a few ?s. first of all i will be using a 10 gall. with a small (zoo-med) undertank heater. and what wattage would be best for the basking light? im thinking 50 or 75?? and should I get two thermometers (one for each side of tank) and also whats a good bedding material, I was thinking about putting half sand and half rocks (like the kind of rocks you buy for fishtanks) to give it a desert feel. or maybe bark or aspen??? also If you can give me any other advice that'd be great, THANKS

A 50 watt bulb will work great. It's what I use on my 10 gallon tanks. I don't use a thermometer at all. As long as you keep the heat pad turned on at all times and put the basking light on the same saide as the heat pad and don't keep them in a drafty area they will be fine. The bedding material would depend on the size. Don't use the fish tank rocks. I use calcium sand. It's safer than regular sand. It's really easy to clean as well. Just spot clean it. Always keep a dish of fresh water in the cage.

Leos dont really live on sand.... I would put down repti-turf because its so universal. Also, the sand can cause impaction if they eat it while going for a cricket.

There are a lot of choices out there. You can look around to find one, but I think that a good choice is finding large, flat rocks and putting them on the floor of your tank. Slate works well. Also it would look really cool. I had a slate-bottom tank and I put my leo in there. It was really cool and he liked it.

Its all up to you. BTW, are you getting this from ReptileDepot.com??? How has buisness with them for you been? Just want to know... :)

I have one and they are super easy. 10 gallon , get a heat rock at a pet store, 25 watt light and sand or ground up walnut shell. I have no thermostate and my lizard is fine . Just keep it from cold areas llike windows. They do like some bark to climb on and a little greenery is good.

a light is good but not necessary, sand is good n rock.undertank heater is good but never use a heatrock the heat fluctuates due to the uneven temp and could easily burn your gecko.remember to dust ur crickets with a calcium powder and gut load your crickets to provide essential nutrients for your lizard.for more info visit http://www.kingsnake.com for more detailed caresheets.
