I kinda know how you feel. And really in a way regardless of what everyone says being a lil nervous is not a bad thing. My mom has the same problem when driving and shes been driving for 8+ years. The truth is she hasnt gotten into any accident or even got a dent or made any mistakes not a single traffic violations. Compared to my dad with 30+ years or experience who has a couple of violations, dents and two accidents.etc..

All im trying to say is dont stress yourself out thinking about how nervous you are because it will only get worse. I suggest going to a driving school if you havent, or even getting a good friend who is funny and can help u take your mind of things. Basically you have to tackle your fear head on! and practice is the best way.
If your uncomfortable on major roads then practice on the back roads, and once your more comfortable start moving slowly to major roads.

Try to find some way of enjoying your driving, and try to focus on something else other than thinking how scary the road is. The road is not scary and you are completely capable the fact that you know your fear is a good thing. You just need to control it, and a lil fear will help you to be a cautious driver! and that is a good thing!

and dont listen to people who say you cant make it or you will never get over this phobia! thats just stupid, Its up to you and your willpower and im sure with practice and even a good companion and some support you will do just fine.

Its just like going in front of a huge crowd to speak. i had public speaking difficulties but with practice ive gotten over it. You can also get over your fear! just practice and try to enjoy what your doing! know your the boss! and control your emotions you will do just great!

I was very nervous myself, You need to relax and be alert too at the same time.
Sit in the car your going to drive for about 15 minutes in the drivers seat. Do not turn on the car just yet. Just look at your dashboard, learn where every thing is, look at the speedometer, adjust the mirrors, adjust the seat, feel the stirring wheel. Just so you can get acquainted with every thing.
Go with an experienced driver and let them teach you, listen and drive a little by little. dont Panic.
take it slowly.
Good Luck, Liz

I would suggest that perhaps you should see a Driver's Ed as well before going behind the wheel of the car is to set yourself mentally that everything will be fine and that you can do it . Take 10 deep breath all the way to bottom of your stomach and exhale and your eyes must closed . You most not think about anything and just relax . You repeat this exercise anytime before any stressful situation . Or just sit behind the wheel of the car and just to imagine how much fun it is . You can't think negative .

OK, relax. Take a deep breath. Turn your phone off. Turn off the radio. Get comfortable in the car. You should be able to rest your feet on the floor under the pedals and your wrist should be able to rest on the top of the wheel with out stretching your arm or moving your back off the seat.

Concentrate on the road. Look as far ahead as you can and try to think about what the other drivers on the road are GOING to do.

One thing I have learned is that people don't want to smash into you. They all have breaks and a steering wheel. This will keep them from hitting you. The rest is up to you.

Have fun.

Nervousness is normal when learning how to drive. Don't worry about it and don't worry about making mistakes... everyone makes mistakes. Once you get use to it, you will be very comfortable behind the wheel. The only way to overcome a fear is to face it.

You should really just relax. Remember that when you are behind the wheel, you are in control of the vehicle. Whatever you tell it to do is what it will do. The more nervous you are, the more you are going to psyche yourself into thinking something bad will happen, and the better chance there will be of something bad happening. My suggestion to you is just to remember every time you get behind the wheel, the only person at fault for what happens is you, and you have the power to make sure you do things correctly. You should be fine, just take a deep breath before you put it in drive, and you will be alright!

Besides the basics of driving, all you need to know and remember is that you control the car the car does not control you, put in the back of your mind that you know what you are doing and just do it. If you have fear then you won't be a good driver. More accidents happen because people are not sure of themselves. Be confident in what you do and you will succeed.

John Doe is right. go somewhere like the country with little traffic and just learn to operate the vehicle. Get comfortable with the controls. Get a good idea of where your car sits in the road.
If you live in the city get up early on Sunday and drive. Most everybody sleeps in on Sunday and streets are near empty. There really is no substitute for practice. It will come to you, be patient but persistent in your driving.

Go to places that are very uncrowded until you feel comfortable enough to go to a more crowded place to drive. Don't rush into it you could lose your own life or harm someone else. Spend a lot of time in the car. But remember to keep calm and drive with someone else who is experienced
