Geographical feature? According to the U.S. Geological Survey, there is a reservoir in Scotland County, NC named "X Way Mill Pond". The same source also lists a "Xenia Post Office" that was open from 1891 to 1903.
Company? My Chapel Hill, NC telephone book lists various companies, like "Xenobiotic Detection Systems Inc", and "Xitech Communications".
Another possibility is that "the letter X" in your question is the Greek letter chi, which is shaped just like an X. In that case, the answer could be a fraternity or sorority, like Chi Omega, Chi Phi, or Chi Psi.
