I like living close to the beach, but I want to be extremely rural. Which state do think would be better? Montana or Oregon?

Try the southern coast of Oregon. You won't get more rural than Curry County. There's no direct route from Interstate 5 to that stretch of coastline.

Many of the seaside towns weren't incorportated until after WWI because they didn't want to pay state taxes. The Highway Department built a series of bridges to replace the ferries.

The first link below is a gallery of the coastal bridges. The other two links are the local, weekly newspapers for Curry County, a.k.a. the Banana Belt of Oregon.

LOL, Honey, there ain't no beaches in Montana! okay, maybe some lakes ... or rivers .... but ....

I would say, go for southern Oregon. Anywhere south of Florence you can find rural areas that are just a few miles from the beach, and the beaches are never overcrowded. You might want to avoid the towns, but there are so many rural areas in between, you would find a lot to look for.

One area is Triangle Lake area between Eugene and Florence ... very isolated in places. Southern Oregon south of Coos Bay has a lot of those areas as well.

Relatives of mine lived on 35 acres just north of Bandon, and everyone had that much acreage or more, so it felt very rural, even though it was only a few miles from town. Lots of places like that.

Need more information? I will help all I can, msg me from my 360 page.

There are no beaches in Montana. It is a land-locked state.

Both Montana and Oregon are beautiful states. Oregon has hundreds of miles of beautiful beaches and a lot of rural areas.

I Currently live in Montana, if you want to be EXTREMELY rural we have it. If you like the beach, stay in Oregon. Anywhere in paticualr you want to live in Montana, let me know I can tell you more specifics. Personally, I love the coast and the milder weather.

I've lived in Oregon and it is great!
You can still be extremely rural and get to the beach in just a few hours. The farther east you go, the more rural you get.
Good luck with your choice.
