not sure of spelling could be pop-o or something

I tired several different spelling variations and couldnt come up with anything. Maybe it was just a way of explaining a horse as a pony "pop poe" in basically baby talk, similar to "ma ma" for mother.

Yes, it's appropriate. A child's personality is already starting to show at about 3 months. I don't have any idea how old Madeleine is but the child does not have to be very old for a parent to recognize when they have a happy child and when they don't. As for someone like me that has no idea how old Madeleine is or was it may have been a little more appropriate to add the "young" word in-between beautiful and person in that first quote. If a person is being interviewed they are going to make mistakes like that but if it's written in a book you have time to correct for these kinds of little over-sites.
