After looking at me up and down he grinned. He then left. He is my friends hubby's mate. Have not said anything to anyone as don't know if he was just looking or is interested! I know I am!!!

Well...I've always considered this gesture rude and quite frankly akin to stripping you down to your bare skin with his eyes.
There are other forms of body language that are much more subtle than oogling, staring, peering over the top of sunglasses and the "once-over" as you have experienced.
If you hook up with a "man" who cannot express his admiration of you in any other form than that then you're.....what do you Brits say?..."a wanker". and you deserve precisely what you get madam.
So....be careful.

Maybe he has X-Ray eyes!!! If he likes what he sees under the outer wear chances are he will fancy you!

Depends how long for, whether he gives you a double take and whether he tries to catch your gaze. If not he's just checking you out. That's what men do!
