I go to SIU and love my team but in my opinion we are ranked way too high.Sure we play hard nose in your face defense and we allow the 3rd fewest amount of points per game in the nation. But we have still lost about 4 games to crummy teams. And I bet we are in the top 12 on the final poll. And if we win the MVC tourney we will probably get a #3 seed in the big tournament!

slicknj, you have an argument. But when you lose to evansville and bradley. you cant expect to see them in the top 20. but under rated, i like your enthusiasm. From a biast point of view, hell ya! go dawgs!

I'm an SIU alum and I was wondering the same thing. Ranking them at 20 seemed about right; 14 seems over the top. They're a good team, no doubt about it, but they're inconsistent even when they win. Among other things they get into too much foul trouble and they have too many turnovers, at least in the games I've seen. (On the other hand, the foul trouble is a natural result of the tight D they play, and they do have a relatively deep bench.)
At 20 the expectations for what they'll do in the tournament (NCAA and MVC) would be better. At 14 (and like you say, probably 12 next week) I'm afraid they're getting set up for a big fall. If they're a 5 or 6 seed in the NCAAs I think they can advance to the sweet 16, especially if they get a reasonable and not underrated 11 or 12 seed. As a 3 or 4 seed it might be hard to get out of the first weekend.

they are not ranked to high they beat good teams and know how to play the game.Butler is ranked to high they are a good mid major team and will make the tournament probably 4 or 5 seed.and SIU will probably be a 4 or 3 seed.

I think Southern Illinois will be a five or six myself. I would not be hung up over rankings because that does not necessarily translate into seeding. I find it funny that we can even talk about Southern Illinois as a five or six when the highest MVC team last year was Witchita State with the league having much higher RPI"s last year.

They're schedule is weak. They need to play some stronger teams to see how good they really are against the best teams in the nation.

They are overrated because they're in a weak conference and their best win was against an even more overrated team, Butler.
