It could be because problems are all over the news, papers, magazines, in conversations at school, etc. If all you did was look at the big headings and believed everything that was said in every single "official" news source, you'd think the world is EVIL. Plus, teens are affected by a lot. Friends, teachers, Everything plays a role. Who do you listen to? Everyone says something different. Everything seems really important and huge...then you look back and realize it wasn't really that big...
"Should I act like an adult or be a kid again?"
"No one seems to listen anyways..why should I bother"

I'm 15 and sometimes I feel like my age puts up a red flag, like "Watch out she's a teenager!!! You're gonna have BIG problems with her!!"

I've started to realize that anything can happen, and all the time people say things like, "Look at the kids in Africa. They are hungry and have AIDS. You should consider yourself lucky."

Sure I feel lucky. But for how long will my luck last? Everyone around me, they're all different. Who can I trust? That person over there..Are they ok? Would they try to hurt me?

People don't seem to realize that the problems are out there, and everyone has been exposed. Things you later dismiss as silly were really big then. It's just that some people deal with things differently than others...

As an educator I see this problem a lot. Parents no longer sit down and talk to their children about things. They don't spend time showing them what is right and wrong and they don't place responsibility on their actions. Kids are no longer having fun like going camping or traveling to historic places like we did when I was growing up. Parents have little time for their children and what little free time they have they spend on themselves. They are stressed out and just don't want to deal with anymore problems. Also, with today's real time technology children are being desensitized to violence and pain. Without the support of a parent to "decode" or interpret the truth for them they receive the wrong message. "Violence is cool" according to the video games and television, so the children are simply acting out in ways they perceive to be acceptable.

teens are not a special problem. Capitalism and this endless pursuit of wealth is the root cause of problems.
