I live on the 4th floor of a downtown city apt building. Although the cable wiring sucks and the broadband sometimes goes out, I have never had a problem with my Linksys wireless router. It is easy to use and has online assistance too.

Where is your wireless signal going to come from? Cable or the phone? If it's the phone, often the phone companies will furnish the modem and router. If it's cable, you will have to buy it. Personally, I like Linksys, but that's because I have all Linksys equipment and have had great success with it for over a year. Belkin is also good and can be purchased at Wal-Mart for around $40.

I have internet through the phone company; when i set up my wireless internet, they sent me the router/motem combo for free...See if your ISP will do that. It's a 2wire and it works really well.
