In the USA College and beauty school are the same thing. Depending on your state, you are required to go to school so many hours that are set by the state. Every state is different. For example I went to beauty school in Arizona. Arizona required I get 1800 hours of education. Costs are different. Just call around and get some prices. Usually, you can get financial aide, either a grant or a loan that you pay back when you finish school.
It is a good career if you don't mind being on your feet for long hours, get no health benefits, or retirement benefits if you rent a booth. Some large chains offer benefits, it just depends who you work for. If you work for yourself, you have to build a clientele and that can take time. A year or longer. If you are a good cosmetologist, you can build a very nice clientele. It's all up to you really. Repeat business and word of mouth will make you successful.
Good luck.

A lot of states are closing down private beauty schools, and going to colleges which makes it easier with cost, if you cant afford it you can get a pale grant. Each state has different amount of hours required to take. North Carolina, you have to take 1500 hours, and you have to have 24 continuing ed classes inbetween each time to renew your licenses. When you go to school, you will clock in and out just like you would at work. Thats how they keep track of your hours. If you are good at it, income is unlimited. Also with a cosmetology license, you do not have to do just hair, it basically covers anything in the beauty profession. Nail techs., esticians, etc... My class started out with 36 people, and by the time we ended, there was only 12 left that graduated. If the school is good, they will dwindle it down, and only the goods left... Hope this helps, and GOOD LUCK!!!

What all the individuals have said above, plus: going from intense college to school you're making a significant life transition. truly some youthful ones come into the dorms and freak out because they're no longer prepared for life outdoors the residing house. maximum of them were fantastically sheltered, and they do no longer comprehend the thanks to address having the further wide-open possibilities you've obtainable in college. (Freaking out from time to time contains appearing some issues they sense sorry about later, btw.) once you're on the West Coast, evaluate doing all of your first 2 years in community college. on the East Coast community faculties are extra or a lot less commerce faculties, while on the West Coast they're truly junior universities. they offer quite a few reward. They cost a lot a lot less, you get extra appropriate preparation (classification sizes are nevertheless interior the Nineteen Thirties, as against the thousands for most decrease-branch college practise), it really is a lot less complicated to get commonplace to UC (per chance also CSU?) as a move student than one proper out of highschool, and finally, they help with the transition. in case you pass to community college, then your first 2 years you're making the college transition, from intense college to school; then on the college you're making the own transition from residing at residing house to residing (+/-) on your own.
