yes, my ex-husband gave me herpes 4 years ago. I have had one healthy baby boy last June and am pregnant with twins. I suggest that you do your reasearch to get all the facts, but I know that they do one of two things, they put you on treatment the last few weeks of your pregnancy so that you hopefully don't get any outbreaks and check you regularly for any signs of one coming, or they take the baby C-section if there is any concern at all. I breast fed and herpes does not affect your breast milk in any way at all. The only way a baby can catch herpes from the mother is if the baby comes out vaginally while the mother is having an outbreak. The sores on the mother can infect the baby, whichi in turn can cause serious complications and even death. I don't want to scare you though. The doctors will just do a c-section if there is even the slightest hint of an out break. 2 out of every 5 women have herpes and I would say 95% of those will probably have children in the future. You just need to read up and be prepared with your questions and look forward to having a wonderful baby. Good luck.

Birth is only a problem if you have an active outbreak at the time. And of course you you can. Herpes is just a different form of cold sore and the same rules apply its transmitted when in an active state not when dormant. My husband was given herpes by an old girlfriend who didnt believe that clean people could get it (cuckoo) I also have it now which is ok as i knew he could pass it on I mean after all unless you say no sex its fairly inevitable. We also have 3 healthy kids with no trace of either herpes or cold sores for that matter

There is no developmental problems While a women is pregnant if she has herpes. The only time you could spread the herpes to the baby is if you have an outbreak when having a vaginal delivery. Then the doctor will tell the mother she needs to have a C-section. If there is no outbreak when she goes into labor she can have a natural birth. Usually a doctor will put the her on Valtrex about 10 days before her due date To avoid an outbreak during delivery. Hope this has helped!

Yes she can have a heathy baby but will require meds prior to the birth & meds during if she has a outbreak at the time a csection would be done. As for BF, if you have never had a herpes sore on your breast or nipple (can have them there) you can breastfeed as long as you are carefull to discuss your choice with your doctor so the right herpes prevenative meds are prescribed as some can not be used when you nurse. But prior to getting preg you should discuss the possible birth & health compliactions that can arise with your doctor as well always make ure your OB knows you have it as if you have a outbreak that is not visable during labor it can lead to the death of the newborn.

I got identified with herpes (type 2) about 3 years back, when I was still attending college and had a silly one-night stand. I realize lots of girls say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a huge mistake that one time and all of a sudden it seemed like I was going to have to live with the consequences for my entire life. The hardest part was feeling I could never date other men again. After all, who wants to go out with someone who has sores round her "you know what" area? But since a friend shared this video https://tr.im/MigX2 everything got better.

Not only was I able to eliminate all remnants of the herpes virus from my system in less than 3 weeks, but I was also able to begin dating again. I even met the man of my dreams and I'm so blessed to write that just a week ago, in front of everyone in a busy restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me! This system provided me the chance to be happy and experience true love again. Now I want to help others too by sharing this story.

I don't know about breastfeeding but I know she can have a healthy baby. My sister had herpes before she met her husband. They have a beautiful and healthy baby girl. If I can remember right the big thing is to let your Doctor know so they can wipe the babies eyes with a solution that will prevent the blindness that normally comes when herpes infected mothers have babies. Check with your OB/GYN about the breastfeeding.

I am absolutely terrified and I feel so alone. I just found out last week that I tested positive for hsv1 and 2. I have been with the same man for the past 10 years and within the last year found out that he has cheated on me with numerous women. I am so scared that I can give it to my children by kissing them and them eating with me...I feel like my whole life has changed. And even though the nurses, my doctor, and websites say that a lot of people have it I still feel like I am by myself. My self esteem has dropped and I feel like I have been used up. But now, My life is very happy.

I just had my second baby 2 months ago. I was worried about the same thing, about four weeks from my due date the doctor prescribed me valtrex, as long as there is no outbreak there is no reason you cant deliver naturally, and as for breastfeeding theres no reason you cant do that either, if you do have an outbreak make sure you wash your hands well, which you should be doing anyway, good luck!

Yes, of course, theres just a risk if you deliver while having an outbreak. You may want to have a c-section just to be safe. But, you can not hurt the baby at all breastfeeding. Check Herpes.com for risks of labor with Herpies.
