No, the first to record the song(and to WRITE it) was Leonard Cohen. Jennifer Warns did a cover of Leonard Cohen-songs about 10 years ago, but it is(and was) a Leonard Cohen song!!!

i know the song but i only know a woman with a heaviesh band sang it between 1983 and 1985. ive just discoverd r.e.m. sang it to, but its not the one in my head.
