Thanks in advance.....

If you are heating with electricity, that is probably about right. If not, turn off everything that you can.

lower thermostat to 65°
if you don't use both floors, turn off heat and water to unused floor
turn off lights when not in room
turn off lights in daytime
turn off tv when not actually watching programs
lower water heater temp
make sure doors and windows are not leaking cold air
fluorescent lamps are really a wash..they cost so much more than incandescent that there is really no saving, plus there is the mercury content when they are discarded.

DON"T EVER USE SPACE HEATERS.......they make your bill sky high. Make sure all if any cracks are sealed up i.e., basements windows, etc. Make sure there is no extra wind or air coming through your windows, if so, put plastic up so the warm air stays in and cold air out! Also, check the seals on your doors, some air likes to come in at the crack on the bottom...you can buy those "air prevent" thingies, or just fold up a towel and put there. If it is just you and your hubby, turn it down and put on a few layers of clothes, and use each other to stay warm ;o) If you are not using 1 level keep the other one closed off.

If you were heating house with electricity changing to eficient light bulbs will not help your electric bill because the energy loss from old light bulbs is heat. Which will heat up your house the same as your heaters.
Best thing you can do is to look for drafts, plug them up somehow, and wear a hat. The heat loss from the top of your head is quite significant.

* run thermostats down, wear more clothes.... also, run the unit where you are the most. If no one is upstairs during the day, run that one lower.

* check for wind drafts around windows and doors.
* If you have a fireplace, close the flue when you aren't using it.... amazing how much cold air gets sucked into the house

Be Blessed!

If you haven't already, change all of your light bulbs to the new flourescent bulbs. Trust me, they are worth it. Don't keep your house so warm, you can get use to 65 degrees.
