Women with extremely large breasts-breasts that are simply too big for their frame-frequently experience chronic and serious back and neck pain. Sometimes, the weight of their breasts can also lead to painful shoulder grooving from bra straps and severe, chronic skin rashes. Excessively large breasts can prevent a woman from participating in many enjoyable and healthy physical activities. Additionally, women with excessively large breasts may face social pressures that can lead to very real emotional injury.

If your breasts are large but not yet sagging and if your nipples are in a normal position, then you might be a good candidate for breast reduction by liposuction. Most women who require a reduction have some degrees of breast ptosis of sagging. Usually the amount of ptosis is defined in terms of the diagonal distance, in centimeters, from the notch at the base of the neck where the collar bones come together. If your nipples are more than 21 centimeters from the notch in the breastbone, you will most likely require surgery alternative to breast reduction by liposuction.

You have to live with your decision--not your man. Make the decision based on what is best for you. So I will present a pro/con rationale to help you make the best decision for you. Pros: I had the procedure done to reduce the size of my breast and it did wonders for me. I look slimmer. I do not have so much strain on my back or those bra strap lines in my shoulders. I can jog and jump without having to wear two bras. I fit better in clothes. The surgeon was super talented and the procedure included a lift! No only did my 'girl-soldiers' look cute, they 'stood at attention'--without a bra! There is nothing more unattractive than flabby saggy breasts! The breast tissue is usually tested for atypical cells--that is a good thing to screen breast cancer. My hubby appreciated the finished product even more! Here are the cons: I did not loose sensation in my nipples--although the jury is still out on that one, supposingly a family member did loose some sensation in her nipples. If you are 'apple' shapped, then your stomach will appear bigger--that can be unattractive. Nursing? I am not sure about the ability to nurse after a breast reduction. Talk to your surgeon if this is important to you. I spoke with the plastic surgeon specifically about the resulting size. I have had a big chest all of my life and I did not want to be too small. I would highly recommend discussing resulting size, location of the sutures, and reshapping. Make sure you get specifically what you want. I say, go for it!!!!! Good luck in whatever you decide.

If you are having back issues because of them, then go for it!

I had back problems with my 38J breasts, and I went and got a breast reduction Feb 20, 2006. I had five pounds taken off to make me a 38C and I love it.

Insurance covered mine 100% (most cover anywhere from 60-100%).

I was out of work for two weeks. I restricted myself from any heavy lifting for those two weeks, then slowly worked my way up comfortably to a regular schedule.

I had NO PAIN after the surgery. No back pain or recovery pain. My scars are 95% gone, you really need to look close to see them.

http://www.breasthealthonline.com is a great side to read more about breast reduction. http://www.bfar.org is also another good site to read about effects of a breast reduction.

If you feel uncomfortable with the attention, you should get the breast reduction. With larger breasts, it's harder to do things like run, play sports, and exercise in general. It can also lead to back pain and discomfort. You can still be attractive and healthy with smaller breasts, but you should learn about the risks before doing it.
