1.During a 5-day festival, the number of visitors tripled each day. If the festival opened on a Thursday with 345 visitors, what was the attendance on that Sunday?

Triple means 3. Begin with “Thursday = 345 visitors”. If Thursday = 345 visitors then:

Friday = 345 visitors x 3
Saturday = _[product of Friday’s visitors]_ x 3
Sunday = _[product of Saturday’s visitors ]_ visitors x 3

2.Employees of a discount appliance store receive an additional 20% off of the lowest price on an item. If an employee purchases a dishwasher during a 15% off sale, how much will he pay if the dishwasher originally cost $450?

If the dishwasher receives an additional 20% off from the already 15% off reduced price, then the whole discount is 35% off.

Percentages are expressed in decimals, so 35% looks like this .35 on a calculator

You must multiply .35 by the original price ($450):

.35 x 450 = This will give you the amount of money that is being DISCOUNTED or subtracted by the original price.

Lastly, subtact the discount price from the original ($450) price.

3.The sales price of a car is $12,590, which is 20% off the original price. What is the original price?

Let's say the original price of the car is X
and we know that if we take 20% off the original price, we are only paying 80% of the original price. Our original price was 100% and (20% + 80% = 100%)
Percentages are expressed in decimals, so 80%=.8
and .8x means 80% of original price
.8x=12590 (80% of the original cost is $12,590)
Divide both sides by .8
x=15737.50
So the original price of the car was $15,737.50

4.If Leah is 6 years older than her sister, Sue, and John is 5 years older than Leah, and the total of their ages is 41. Then how old is Sue?

x= sue's age
x+6= Leah's age
x+6+5= john's age
do you see how I got this? we do not know sue's age so she is x. Leah is 6 years older than Leah so she is x+6. John is 5 years older than Leah who is 6 years older than sue so John is x+6+5.
Your equation is set up like this
sue's age + leah's age + john's age = 41 understand?
x + x+6 + x+6+5 = 41
now add your common factors
3x+17=41 solve for x
3x=41-17
3x=24
x=8
therefore sue must be 8 years old. to check this you can use sue's age of 8
Sue= 8
Leah= 8+6=14 (Sue's age plus 6 years)
John=14+5=19 ( Leah's age plus 5 years)
Sue+Leah+john=41
8+14+19=41

1 Thurs=345. Friday 3x345=1035. Sat 3x1035=3105. Sun 3x3105
=9315.

2. $450-15% is 450 - (45+22.5)=450 - 67.5 = 382.5 now take away 20% of 382.5 so 382.5 - (38.25x2) = 382.5 - 77 = 306 You can also do this my multiplying by the remaining percentage, and dividing by 100. So 450x85/100 = 382.5 then 382.5x80/100=306.

3 This is easy. 12,590 x 80/100 = (you can do it)

4 This is algebra. make Sues age be w (I dont use x cos it gets confused with times, and s will look like 5) Now w + w+6 + w+5+6 = 41.
Gather terms, 3w + 17 = 41and swap sides 3w=41-17 so 3w=24 and w=8. Finally put the ages together, Sue is 8, Leah is 8+6=14 and John is 8+6+5=19. To check, 19+14+8=41.

1. 345 * 3 (fri) * 3 (sat) * 3 (sun) = 9315

2. Original price = 450
15% off = price is now 382.50
20% off of 382.50 = $306.00

3. X - 20% = 12, 590 X = 15,737.50

4. L = S + 6
J = L + 5 or L = J - 5
J + S + L = 41

From the first two S + 6 = J - 5 or S = J - 11
Putting the value of S and L into equation 3, we get
J + (J-11) + (J-5) = 41 or 3J = 57 so J = 19, L = 14, S = 8

1. 345 x 3 x3 x3 x3 = 27, 945 attendance on Sunday.
2. 20 % + 15 % = 35 % off $450.00 = $ 157.50 off he pays $292,50.
3. $12,590 + 20 % = $15,108. original price.
4 Leah is 14, Sue is 8, John is 19. 14 is 6 more than 8, 19 is 5 more than 14. 14+ 8 + 19 = 41

1) Thursday: 345
Friday: 345 *3
Saturday 345 *3 *3
Sunday: 345 *3 *3 *3

2) 450 -.2(450 - .15(450))

3) x - .20x = 12590

4) x = sues age
x + 6 = leah's age
x + 6 + 5 = john's age

x + (x+6) + (x + 11) = 41

That should give you the start you need...

for the first one just take 345 times 3, answer times 3 and that answer times 3.

for #2, 450 times .15 and if it is supposed to be the lowest price, then times by .2

3. i dont know
4.sue...6...leah...5....john
s + (s+6) + (s+11) = 41

1) 345 * 3 * 3 *3 = 9315

2) 450 - 15% = 382.50 - 20% = 306.00

3) 12950 / 80% = 16187.50

4) 41 = S + (S+6) + (S+6+5)
41 = 3S + 17
3S = 24
S = 8

345
1035
3105
9315 = Sunday

2. 450*.85*.8 = 306

3. 12590/.8 = 15737.5

4. 41 = L + S + J = (S + 6) + S + (S+6+5)

41 = 3S + 17
