First of all, it's "abbreviate". Second of all, a word cannot be a hypocrite. A hypocrite is a person who does not practice what they preach. ie: Someone telling you that you need to quit smoking, but yet they smoke.

Abbreviate is a verb. A verb cannot be a hypocrite. ;) So, no.

The fact that abbreviate is such a long word would, instead, be called 'irony.'

abbreviate didn't choose it's own meaning and can't be a hypocrite. and saying abbreviate is still shorter than saying "to make shorter".
