Hi, ive been wanting a game and i was going to pay for it but my friend said to use a keygen she explained what i have to do. But is it ileagal to use it and if so what is the punishment if you get caught out?

Yes, a keygen is illegal.
A keygen is a program that generates an activation code for various programs. This is most likelly done because a person has downloaded the software from the internet and does not have the activation code that comes with the software.
However, unless this program connects to the internet in some way, then it will most likelly not make a difference. I would not suggest trying to play a game online with a stolen activation code though.

If you did not buy the game and you use a keygen to generate a key, then that is illegal. Keygens can be legal if you already bought the game and lost your code, you can just create one.

Use of a keygenerator itself is not illegal. However, pirating software is. It is kind of like a gun..just owning a gun is not illegal, but using it to rob a bank certainly is.
