Careful of all these statistics. The first thing you will notice is that they are all different! Second, what does 95% mean? it means nothing unless you understand what it stands for.

Condoms are 97% effective according to many sources. This means: IF used correctly they will cause a pregnancy in 3% of users who use them for a year.

NOT pregnancy 3 times out of every 100 times you use one, but 3 out of 100 couples using condoms become pregnant each year.

If you don't use a condom correctly, the risk goes up to 14% pregnancies each year.

Additionally, condoms are 87% effective at stopping HIV and help against many other diseases.

Condoms are great when used correctly. Make sure there is no air in the condom when it is put on (pinch the top when rolling down the penis), make sure not to use the condom near or after the expiration date, make sure to hold the condom at the base of the penis when pulling out so the condom wont slip off.

Overall, condoms can be 100% effective, but its human error that causes them to be from 0% effective to 100% effective...

Use them wisely and you will be fine. You also may wanna use spermicide (foam or suppositories) as a backup just in case a condom ever breaks or there is a mishap. BE SAFE!

I think they are around 80% effective. The problem with condoms is usually the user, it is hard to say how effective they are because many people do not know how to properly put one on. If you follow the instructions to a tee you will be much better off, but you should always use a back up method just in case since the only 100% effective way is to not have sex.

Condoms, when used perfectly, are about 95% effective at preventing pregnancy. In typical use, however, the rate can go down to about 85%.

The most practical route is an oral contraceptive AND a condom.
