i have a history of preterm labor/delivery myself. i for one can say that i have NEVER felt any dilation. that is where i get into all my problems. but i know most doctors don't make it a practice to check you all the time unless you or the doctor is worried. i MYSELF have cervical length ultrasounds between the weeks 16-26. it's less evacive and they can keep a CLOSE look at where i am at. if you are feeling more frequent crampings/contractions/braxton hicks, bring it to the dr's attention...they yMAY want to check you a little more regularly. good luck with this one!

At some point your will have a culture to determine if you have strep b, most of the time the dr. will go ahead and check your cervix since he is already in that general area. I had my culture at 34 weeks. Every dr. is different, just ask him to check you if you are unsure. You really can not tell your self if you are dilating though, just remember you have at least 6- 8 weeks and I would want to keep him in just a little while longer to give him the chance to develop his lungs some more. Good luck.

If you want him to check, then tell him. Tell him you were dialated early on in your previous pregnancy.
However, I wouldn't worry, I have always dialated about 2 cm 5 weeks before the baby came. Unless you are concerned I wouldn't worry.

I get checked every appt, but when you have early labor, Braxton Hicks that are reg, or any bad type of symptoms they should check other then that there is no reason for them to worry.

I was dilated 4 cms and had no idea...so ...I don't think you'll know...I didn't feel any different.

He's YOUR doctor...you're the paying customer...TELL HIM TO CHECK.
Especially if you have prior experience with dilation early on.
