Whatever happened to teaching plain, simple phonics? Word pronounciation and enunciation are extremely important elements of conversation. "aks" or "y'all", or "pawk the caw in the yawd" is not using good phonics. Is there not a standard for the English language? "A" should sound like "A" no matter where English is spoken. The same goes for all the other letters. When "park" and "pock" are pronounced exactly the same way, and accepted as "the norm" we have problems. When "aks" and "ask" are both accepted, we also have problems. It is not cool to misuse the English language, or any other language for that matter.

I have heard "ask" being pronounced as "aks" her in India, too. It's certainly not cool. Most of the people concerned are neither stupid, nor uneducated. I think thy just find it easier to pronounce it that way. Maybe nobody ever corrected them!

It's a common typo. Nothing to do with being cool or stupid. Just some extra need for the spell check.

It comes from them being where they are from. I live in the South. You will commonly here ask pronounced that way. It does of course not mean they are stupid or trying to be cool. It is what they heard growing up.

They are not stupid, neither is it cool. They are most likely uneducated/undereducated. Perhaps you could find a way to respectfully correct them the next time you hear this.

It's dialectical. It's no more stupid or cool than saying 'y'all', or anything else common to a dialect.

People are just stupid. Misspelling words is ignorant, nothing cool about it!

They're stupid for blindly copying people they think are cool.
