I think that today's music is brilliant. We have not had such a rash of fresh ideas and melody since the 1980s. Kaiser Chiefs, Snow Patrol, Mika, Fratellis, Razorlight, Arctic Monkeys etc ........You lucky people. What do you think ?

Please read and understand the question before submitting a response. It says 'two decades'. That has nothing to do with the swinging sixties, the not-so swinging seventies, Bill Haley and the Comets or Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart !!!!!!

Every era had quality music and originality. I'm personally not too keen on the Indie music at the moment, but I have been out of the loop since the end of 90s Indie. I am looking to get back into it. I do think though, that the dance music over the past 8 or so years has been excellent. So many catchy songs.

The new music today, besides rap music, is very good. Rap music used to be great until all the record moguls and MTV got ahold of it and made it suck really bad.

It should be noted that all of it is a rehash of new wave, electro, and punk and metal, all genres of the 70's and 80's.
Nothing original, except that these types of music used to be the music of the underground, now your generic mainstream teen/young adult are into it when in the past they would have hated it.

Mika & Arctic Monkeys i dislike but the others I do, I'm not sure if it's the best but I like most music from old like The Who , Black Sabbath , Motorhead , Ramones - to new like Kaiser Cheifs , Kelly Clarkson and Orson.

The golden era was the seventies. I think the naughties are building up for the 1910's... The next great era. I've been surprised by the many great bands coming into the mainstream lately. Hopefully nothing will come along and ruin it, like punk ruined the 70's.

Dude, the music of today SUCKS big time and I wouldn't even waste my money on it. Most of my music comes from the 70s actually. Check out late 60's to be early 80s and that was the golden age of music for me.

I think most music today is horrible, I remember good music, The beatles, Hendrix, Zepplin, cream, AC/DC, the Doors, Judas Priest, Deep Purple, Black Sabath, Jethro Tull. No one today is near as good as any of those I just mentioned.

I do like today's music... and I'm going to spread the word of Jeff Buckley for my friend who is obsessed with him. Do you know Jeff Buckley? He is from the 90's and died very early, but my friend loves all the bands you listed and I just thought I'd spread the Jeff Buckley love! :)

the less popular indie scene is some of the best music ever, i do agree. however, mainstream music is at an all-time low. imo there's precious little originality in the rap and r&b genre. it's all the same.

but many indie rockers are truly awesome.
