Castlevania II: Simon's Quest!
This really raised the bar for 2-d side-scrollers. Like Zelda, it had a lot of the same type of adventure elements as well as a similar item screen. The graphics/color choices were the easiest to see of the 3 Castlevania games for the NES and it had an AWESOME soundtrack (the one part of video games that I think has NOT gotten better over the years)

No, it could no longer, yet once you desire to play super Mario Bros. i might get super Mario, i think of this is Deluxe? in line with hazard All Stars, besides it has all 3 and it saves (some thing that the NES version needed in case you question me).

Dragon warrior IV , always loved how well the story line was put together for an 8 bit game, really wish they would redo the same game for the newer consoles though.

Super Mario Brothers. Why? Because there was a time when your skill as a gamer was defined as how fast you could beat Super Mario, without warping, and how many times you'd done it. It changed gaming, and launched a legacy that is still going strong.

Every single Megaman. Nothing defines 2D-gaming perfection like the Megaman series. Particularly Megaman 3 for me. <3 Snakeman's stage.

I like River City Ransom when I had my NES console. I think I might still have the NES somewhere in the closet.
