Are they going to be able to re-copy them and keep them for a very long time?

They can be preserved for a long time if they are stored correctly. Some old movies have faded and deteriorated to a point that no restoration is possible. But the ones that have been restored are kept in controlled environment so they can be preserved for a very long time.

Umm, yeah.. they've been doing a decent job already... I have Nosferatu from 1922 and there's a gazillion copies of it... it's one of the first movies...
