The name of the movie was Riki-Tiki-Tavi. It was an animated short made in 1975. It was a mongoose who was saved by an Indian family. The mongoose eventually saved the son from a cobra. It was based on a short story in Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book.

I believe the movie was called Riki Tiki Tavi.....he is a mongoose and becomes a pet for a boy and saves him from 2 cobras...it is an animated movie
