I'm a web developer thinking about going freelance or starting my own company. i'm mainly talking about sound and image files, but also text etc. I've heard about the self-mailing method but i would like something a little more watertight and official.
As always i would like to avoid unnessecary costs etc so a free option would be nice as always!

when you build your site, you put a copright notice at the bottom, this covers all of the graphics, music etc on your site,

like Copyright © 2007 Yahoo! Inc. All Rights Reserved.
then have a link which would be the copyright policy, check the bottom of this page for an example

Any artistic work you do is automatically your copyright.
The only problem is proving it is your copyright, it really doesn't matter how you do that. You could store some on your own website.
But I think you need more than copyright You probably need to register your trade name etc.

This should tell you all you need to know about copyright.

This might sound strange but you can put fragments of text on poetry.com. Under your own e-mail address and when you put it on it automatically copyrights the date and time and it's FREE

Mail the first copies of your material to yourself. Make sure that there's no other copies before. And don't open your mailed material.
