I'm a transfer student from the University of Colorado and I've been considering Emory, Wesleyan, George Washington, and Northwestern, but all of them are very pricey. I have a possibility of attaining scholarships, but I'm trying not to count on it. I have a 3.8 GPA and scored 1390 and 33 on my SAT's and ACT's respectively.

English major? Try your state schools. Liberal Arts education at reasonable prices. You may even get a scholarship because they don't expect to get students with high SAT scores.

Have you considered going out of the country for your degree? For example, Canada. For the price that your looking at now you could probably get in for a whole lot cheaper...and Canada has some good, recognizable institutions i.e., McMasters, Queen's, and U of Toronto. We do get a considerable amount of American students who come here just for that sole reason!!!

You need to look at state colleges and universities, not private, if you are concerned about cost. Even if you are not from that state, you could establish residency first, then apply.
