Two gerbils--Armstrong and Aldrin. Have no idea if they were boys or girls.

As you might assume from the names, I was fascinated by space travel and rocketry when I was a kid. So we used to build rocket ships out of Legos, and put the gerbils inside.

This would not have been so bad, if we didn't then suspend the rocketships with string from the ceiling fans. We would subject our rockets to high G-forces, often to the point of failure.

Alas, dear Armstrong and Aldrin are no more, but they were valiant pioneers of NASA--The Near-Adolescent Space Administration.

Jerry the Gerbil. He was a brat. My cousin's was Samantha, Sam for short. She was very fat. He fed her too many grapes. My paretns watched her while he was on vacation and she got stuck in some plastic play tubing. Poor Sam.

I had hamsters Peabo and Bryson. I think I was addicted to that song from the American Tale "Somewhere out There" which Peabo Bryson sang with some woman. Plus all their children, too many to name!

Houdini!! He was the biggest/fattest little guy and he could 'escape' the cage every day -- we would wire the doors closed and the bars were only about 1/3 inch apart.
