Cinco de Mayo is originally a Mexican holiday, however it is very popular in the U.S. because it is celebrated by the Mexican population in the U.S. which by the way is estimated at about 20 million people, 60% of the total lation population in America

Cinco de Mayo is a big celebration for those of Latin American origin. If I remember it is a celebration of the lives of those who have passed on. It's sort of like Easter. If it is a national holiday (I don't think it is), it could be because of the many Latin Americans who live in states such as California.

Because Mexicans brought their holidays with them when they moved here. Now many of them are Americans, yet they still celebrat e their cultural holidays. Why is St. Patrick's Day an American holiday? Not all Americans are Irish or Catholic, after all.
