Most often it's the Start up programs & utilities. When you start up, antivirus, and other programs also start up, some even run all the time. It can also be trojans and monitoring bugs. I suggest you take a look and see if there are some you can do without. I have a Dell 2400 and I clean the drive about every 3 months and reload the OS and software. Does wonders for the speed.

If you have 56k dial-up internet connection the best download speed you can expect is around 6k under the best of conditions. If you are getting hung up media player visualizations while playing cd's then the problem lies in video and sound proccessing settings, options and capacity. Old codecs slaved to new formats can really slow things down. I've got a pent. 4 hyper that works at 2.8 gig. that was easilly overwhelmed by back ground 'crapware' interfearing with my tasks. Careful eradication of this 'crapware' has made my machine operate much faster.

your computer is still slow because 9 times out of ten, you have major files that take up alot of space, or it could be as simple as you need to clean the inside of the computer like as far as the fan. but just get rid of files that you know you really dont need. and make sure you have a fast internet
