Most cats Knead, it is there nature.
Its like a getting comfy before lying down.
Dogs spin in circles 3 times before lying down, its weird but just nature

When they're kittens, cats knead their mama's teats to get the milk to flow.
Many cats carry this behavior into their adulthood because they associate the action with a sense of pleasure and contentment.
so, when your cats kneads your lap, its showing you that it's happy and comfortable.

My grandpa always called it baking dough!! But our cats always do it its a sense of security for the cat and showing affection. Also if your cat does it he/she might do it to make it more comfortable before lying down (moving blankets into a more comfortable place). If u look at a litter of kittens they would always do it to their mom not only when there eating but just when there lying down for a sense of security from there mom.!

Kneading soothes cats, it is what they did to get milk from their mother's breasts - some call it starfish paws or making biscuits! Lol...

It means that they are just trying to get comfortable before settling in. Kind of like fluffing up the pillow before bed.

My cats do it too. They do it when they are kittens to get the milk from their ma's. And they continue to do it when they get older. It's a security and comfort thing!

There are two reasons that i know of why cats kneed...
1. to sharpen their claws...hence clawing the couch or chairs...
2. because they are content and happy...
Good Luck!

Every cat I have ever had has done this, and not just my knee, but cushions, carpet, bedding. I think they like the sensation of pulling on their claws.
