Definitely see your GP. There are various options for help. Special counselling for eating disorders can be very helpful, as can a medication called fluoxetine (often given as an anti-depressant but very good in bulimia) which is just 1 tablet taken daily to help prevent food cravings and help with body image etc. Your periods are related to nutrition and body weight. It may be that you are currently underweight and that your periods will likely return as you get better and return to a more normal body weight.

Eating disorders are very common but can spiral out of control if you don't seek help. Please make an appointment with your GP who will be glad to help you.

Hi there,

I have been bulimic for a few years now. I guess when you start you think you are in control and can stop, but then when you try it's not that simple as their is always that nagging voice in your head after you have eaten. I actually never really had distrurbed Menstrual cycles with it to be honest, once or twice i missed one (when I was really bad) but then they returned to normal, however if you are really concerned about it, or it has been a few months since your last period perhaps you should see a doctor.
Depression seems to be in the family along with eating disorders, I have also suffered from it severly at times in the past year or so...I think the best way to try to fight it is to seek out somthing that you love that will make you feel better..i know how hard that can be though when nothing seems worth it, but keep trying pet!!
Body issues are hard to deal with sometimes...how we look, or how we think we look severly alters what we think of ourselves and what we think others think about us...but bulmia only lowers ur self worth and confidence, even though you think that by doing it you will lose weight and feel better, you won't and from what i can see your already beating yourself up about this.

Please see your gp or talk to someone you trust.

The samaritains have a great email service also if you don't want to talk about your problems over the phone and they usually reply within 24 hrs :jo@samaritans.org

check out their site:www.samaritans.org.uk

or the eating disorder assocation website has some helpful contacts too and offers an online self help group :http://www.b-eat.co.uk/Home

there could be underlying reasons for your disordered eating the past few months so perhaps talking it through with a professional could help!
I hope you are ok and feel free to email me if you want any more help.

you need to see your doctor asap. I think that you would also benefit from counselling and help from a dietician. The fact that you want to stop is the first step and you must be very proud of yourself. Ensure that you have alot of support around you. Dont give up, I know that it wont be easy but take little steps at a time. The physical effects of eating disorders can take many months to improve and sadly sometimes permanent damage can occur but try not to think like that. Time will tell about your fertility but the sooner you get on the road to recovery then the better your chances of a full recovery. I wish you luck

i would go and see your dr, and get some counselling. how old are you, and do your parents, friends etc know??? cos they can be a real help to you in terms of support etc. Your periods have ceased because you are depriving yourself of what you need, when you start feeding yourself properly-and keeping it down, your body will start to function again!! its very dangerous to be bulimic/anorexic, because it puts a HUGE strain on your organs and muscles, especially your heart, which if you dont fix your eating disorder soon could lead to heart failure!!!
i have done a presentation on anorexia and bulimia and read some articles by girls who had/have bulimia and im sure like you, they dont have the confidence and are stuck in the mind set that they are fat, because other people are skinnier than themselves. they want to eat, but fear eating because they think they will become fat!! its really not the case, ive got a friend who used to be anorexic, but with the help of everyone around her, shes on the road to recovery!!! positive thinking hunni, if you eat, your body will function properly and you'll get your periods etc back. dont think about the sizes of other people, its you who matters and your health thats important. start by eating small amounts of foods with lots of energy and try and keep it down and then gradually build yourself up with the amount you eat, so that you get all the nutrients your body needs. take light snacks with apples say, your gonna have a tough time ahead, no doubt and it will require alot of strength and courage.see your dr, and she'll help you as well as your family and friends. good luck, hope this helps xx

You should see a doctor just to be sure. The cyst thing though....most women actually get a small cyst on their ovary around ovulation...it normally goes away and doesn't develop into anything serious...and usually they do not know. But see a doctor to be sure.

Wanting to stop is the first step. Keep reminding yourself that you are doing harm to yourself not helping in any way. If you are worried about selfimage you need to talk to a therapist to help. You will learn to better yourself by eating right and exercise. You will also learn to not worry about what others think. You are the only one you have to please. Get help. And be happy.
