These people today are so stereotypical, it's sad.
This is the best answer - not the most popular, but when did reality become popular?
Hip Hop is a culture. Most of the people above that answered have NO concept of the culture. Their parents didn't have to drop out of high school and work to support a living. Their parents didn't split up so one could join the army or run away and never come back. Their parents didn't grow up in the projects and work 3 jobs to support the kids. Their woman didn't cheat on them. Their man didn't cheat on them with their best friend. Their family isn't dysfunctional because of drugs.
These are everyday realities for those who are of the culture.
The common denominator for HIP HOP is poverty. People who were priveleged (like those above) WILL NOT have a clue, so WE (hip hop culture) don't expect them, too.
Actually, last I checked, HIP HOP was the most successful form of entertainment today (music). Ask JAY Z ($700 million and counting). Ask 50 Cent (2 albums - $500 million), and Eminem...and Dr Dre...and NAS....etc...

Hip hop is just a form of expression.An today, as the times change, it can be used to understand the minds of some people.There are lots of styles and opinions of artist in today's music,so try to keep an open mind to understand someone Else's point of views and enjoy of it what you can.Because it's just music.A reflection of culture, Not Religion.

it used to be about self expression and and a voice for those living in the "hood' but it has taken a drastic turn it's about platinum chains, teeth, rims, and phony *** dances for people that can dance. It really does make me sad.
