Freddie Mercury was an incredible talent and recieved the credit before he was dead. Queen is still one of the greatest bands to have ever existed.
Kurt Cobain simply whined about how much his life sucked, married a druggie and eventually sucked the barrel of shotgun. By the way, go on YouTube and look up "Smells Like Teen Spirit backwards". The only reason he is seen as a 'legend' is because he died before he was supposed to and people figured that out.
Elvis Presley was talented, and if I remember right, he was mistakenly diagnosed multiple medications and an overdose caused his premature death.
Jimi Hendrix is the choice I arrived at. He was an AMAZING guitarist and there will never be anyone as good as he was. John Mayer is getting good though...
My decision on who deserves the popularity the most: Jimi Hendrix.
