Be aware that there are many scams that involve people trying to collect "taxes" you allegedly owe to foreign governments - some of them even perpetrated by those governments themselves. Unfortunately, US states have been known to do the same thing. DH is a corporate controller, he gets regular letters from the state of Ohio demanding that his firm pay taxes, even though they have NO operations in that state & don't even employ anyone who has ever set foot in Ohio. I've also heard that California does this, but never actually seen one (a letter).
