if you were in an airtight room and you held your breath while all the air was sucked out and the room was being filled up with pure oxygen, and nothing else, how long would you survive breathing that oxygen. also, will you even die from that or would it be healthier to be in a room of pure oxigen?

It is toxic. At normal pressures you will cause damage to your lungs. It's OK at very low presssures, like 1/3 of normal surface pressure.

You could live in the room until you had converted sufficient of the oxygen into Carbon-Dioxide, to drown in your own waste products. However, the lack of water would cause dehydration, if it was a big enough room you would lose too much fluid by sweating and breathing, and die from dehydration. There is also the risk of fire, one spark and you go up!

If you increase oxygen concentration from 20% (normal) to 25%, you are likely to begin convulsing soon. Oxygen is necessary in small amounts but we breath it with about 78% nitrogen, since Oxygen alone is toxic to cells!!! If you breath pure oxygen for a while it is likely it will hurt you badly...Not sure how long it would take...Wouldn't recommend trying it!!!
