If so, do you know how to make them? I have tried several ways, using ice water after, for example, but no success.

Do you put oil in the pan or heat them dry?

Girls used to do it in the 60's. They would fracture but stay whole. Pretty, crackley. then they would use them as pendants.

OMG, what a nostalgic question. thanks.
i dry heated them on the stove in a pan, and rolled them to evenly heat them.
not hot enough, they don't crack, too hot they explode.... looking back, safety glasses would have been in order, lol!
to get the technique down to a science i'd say use a high heat, and keep track of the time when you find you've made a successful experiment. oh, and yes, cold or ice water is a MUST!

I remember putting them in a fry pan, but I forget for how long, then when they hit the ice water, they crack !!

I just boiled mine for a few minutes in distilled water, and then threw in a lot of ice..they usually crack, but don't split entirely. If they do split you can actually use them for art projects like stained glass.
