wuzaracer answered pretty good to be honest. I go boarding at the Eboshi resort in Miyagi Zao and in off peak season you can pick up two days including pass/rental and return travel from Central Tokyo (by coach) for about 17,000.00yen In season you can double that and add another 25%. Off season snow can be a little patchy I have noticed. Food pretty much the same as anywher in Japan as you are on holiday budget for around 2,500yen a day for food you may or may not need that much but it is a good starting point.
My friend just returned from The Sapporo Snow festival (which is even further North/East than Miyagi Zao) and the area had already started to warm up and the snow was not so great.
If you are planning to go directly from the U.K - wow you must be very very rich.

If you stay at a bed and breakfast type place you could could get a room for about 6000 yen a night. A Western style bed and breakfast would be referred to as a pension, and a Japanese style as a minshuku. A 7 day lift pass would be about 30000. A lift/accommodations package would make a lot of sense. I used to go up and ski for a week at a time at Yamagata Zao on my teacher's salary, so it needn't be unaffordable.

There are resorts such as Appi with expensive luxury hotels, but since skiing is mostly a young person's thing every ski area has its accommodations that suit younger budgets. Whistler or Aspen style $75.00 a day lift tickets are unheard of in Japan. The Japanese skiers who can afford that are at Whistler or Aspen. Aside from the airfare I think you could manage on 100000 yen for the week.

I live in Tokyo, for almost 4 years now. Every year I go on a ski-snowboard holiday with the entire family. Your rough estimate would be UK to Japan Flight+ 13,600 yen (per night, per person). Now for some explanation, flights from the UK to Japan vary inproce depending on the actual dates. February generally has the lowest air fare. Japanese ski resorts and hotles charge fees per person, per night and these prices vary also depending on the vacation dates.
So if you were to take a vacation to the Nagano area this month it woud cost about 1000 GBP. If you are actually going to go on a ski holiday to Japan, you will need to contact a travel agent to book the package. As a note of experience, the Japanese travel agents have a much more extensive listing of large-med-small Japanese style bed and breakfast inns with lower rates and meals included.

a FORTUNE! i came from Japan one month ago....it`s way to expensive.Everything!Insane! i mean food, hotels, BATHROOM use, water, toilet paper......Japan is crazy. Now to go skiing?! At a resort?! that`s going to be at least 15k $ for a week...i live in Oregon,USA and there`s a lot of Japanese teens that come here at Mt. Hood....it`s CHEAPER for them. For a week they spend about 7k $
