i own a repair shop, and it sounds like it has been run dry on oil before, from what you said about it ,it doesn't sound too good ,you might want to take it and have it checked out by a local mechanic, and get there opinion on what it might be doing,at least a hands on opinion is better than what i can offer right now, especially without hearing it run, good luck i hope this help,s.

Sometimes the starter doesn't disengage is what that sounds like. This is not all that bad, you can remove the starter and clean and lube the action of the gear or go get a new starter. Over time this will wear on the gear on the motor and be very costly to replace.

What kind of vehicle is it? You might want to check your compressor. Does you A/C work? My compressor was bad on my Chevy Cavalier. Every time I would start it when cold, it would make a LOUD screeching sound but goes away after about 1 minute.

If it does it on start up, its either the starter or the flywheel. If its while your driving, then it may be an oil issue. In either case you should take it in and see what a mechanic says.
