Elections seem to me to be all about charisma. Like Gore, Kerry chose to try so hard to make himself look smart and sophisticated, that he did not relate to the common person. It seems to be all about Charisma, nothing about issues. Can you name an election in recent history where the person with the least charisma won? Bush/Kerry, Bush/Gore, Clinton/Dole, Clinton/Bush, Bush/Dukakis, Reagan/Mondale, even way back to Kennedy/Nixon.
Think about it.

Lettie D- Honestly, Gore does have more charisma now, but during that election- none, zero, nada.

For me, they are all about issues. But for way too many, it's Charisma. Sometimes, they converge, such as President Reagan.

Neither, they're usually about propaganda. And the last election where someone won that has no charisma would be the last 2 Presidential elections because Bush has none. I do realize that neither did Kerry, but Gore, as stiff as he is, has far more than George Bush.

I agree with you and it's not just an American thing , it's in Canada too , although to a lesser extent.

Elections are becoming more like an American Idol competition than an election, who sounds and looks the best without offending anyone. Nobody seriously discusses issues anymore. It's all froth.

Some people try to avoid the issues but they normally don't win. Charisma could help but without any plans on issues people forget about them quickly.

Right you are. Sadly. With commercials, and coast-to-coast campaigning, the election is becoming less of an issue-based.

I think that most americans are so disenchanted with the system that they feel it doesn' matter, so might as well elect someone that has the least 'bad' going on.

No because ALL politicians will say anything to get elected, so it's NOT about issues.
